The Leadership Institute is a program offered at Kean through the Center for Leadership and Service (CLS) which helps guide and give resources to student leaders to build them up to their fullest potential. They achieve this through a variety of different means, such as academic programming, service projects and the community of peers they have created. Another way that The Leadership Institute helps its students to become successful student leaders is through their Leader2Leader Mentor Program.

Balancing being a senior, an involved student and senior class president is no easy feat, yet Briana Lenard is doing it all. Lenard is spending her senior year dedicated to giving back to her fellow students, preparing for her post graduation endeavors and ending her Kean career with a strong academic standing.

Becoming a well rounded individual is a major key throughout a student's time here at Kean. Tracking community service hours and all of the organizations a student is currently a part of can be very important when applying for graduate schools as well as positions both on and off campus. The Co-Curricular Transcript (CCT) is an official record of students' involvement at Kean University and helps keep track of all the organizations they were or are currently a part of as well as any academic awards that were granted.

Javonica Latimore is all smiles since coming to Kean University. With a passion for singing and theatre, Latimore has spearheaded her start as a Kean Cougar by letting her passions and interests lead her toward higher pursuits. Along the way, she has made many friends and is actively overcoming challenges that come her way.

There are many student groups at Kean that raise money and awareness for certain causes, however, one that stands out is Operation Smile. This organization came to Kean in the Fall of 2009, and is dedicated to educating the community on children who have a cleft palate, cleft lip and other cranio-facial abnormalities around the world in developing countries.

Kean University is known to be a very diverse college, especially with the university having a campus located in Wenzhou, China. As a result, many students from China are able to come to the main campus in Union to study abroad all while learning about American culture and experiencing a completely new environment. A new student group on campus, the Chinese Student and Scholars Association of Kean University (KUCSSA) is dedicated to creating a community including American and Chinese students, that is not just limited to the Wenzhou-Kean exchange students.

If there's one thing senior exercise science major, Juan Leon-Torres believes in it is that physical and mental health go hand and hand. He believes this so strongly, that he has begun to implement an Exercise and Wellness Program to help other student veterans like himself as well as to the Kean student body as a whole to come together and exercise more.

Beginning one's freshman year can be extremely overwhelming. With balancing a new environment, new course load and a new social scene, one can feel very overrun while trying to navigate all of this. One of the most vital departments that Kean has on campus is the Department of Public Safety, which oversees the Kean Campus Police. It is their duty to maintain a safe and secure campus environment for the Kean community. They operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week and 365 days a year, as well as provide a full law enforcement and security services to complete this mission.

Kean is always looking to give back, especially to those who are veterans. The Office of Veterans' Student Services (OVSS) is here at Kean to help transition and provide assistance to those who are veterans, service members and dependents as well. They help guide students through the stressors that may appear when applying to college, becoming acclimated on campus and navigating a new environment. It is OVSS' mission that the student always comes first.

Located in the Green Lane Academic Building (GLAB), the Kean University Barnes and Noble Bookstore offers a wide variety of items and services for students to utilize. Everything from textbooks, apparel, study space and a cafe, the bookstore is sure to have what students are looking for.
