After over a year of adjusting to online classes, Kean University finally has the opportunity to re-open campus to all of its students and staff. The fall 2021 semester is set to be held in person, with the mandated precautions to keep everyone safe and healthy. Let's hear from some of our very own cougar’s on what they think of returning to campus in just a few months.
Due to the hard work of Kean students and faculty, MLK Week of Service has come to an end and has accomplished many things within its events. MLK Week of Service, not only commemorates one of the greatest historical figures, but also shows the dedications of Kean students when they set their minds to doing the right thing.
Plays by People in affiliation with Premiere Stages at Kean University presented its virtual performances via Zoom on Saturday, March 27 at 4 p.m. After registering to sign up, audience members were sent Zoom links to take part in the event. The event was held possible by the New Jersey Theater Alliance 2021 Stages Festival.
On March 24, students from a variety of majors joined Kean's Women and Gender Studies Program, in partnership with the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies, College of Liberal Arts and the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, to welcome guest speaker Dr. Claire Renzetti to present her research on sexual assault and a college students perception.
With elections coming up on Monday April 5 to Wednesday April 7, Kean students were encouraged to join the Student Organization of Kean University in the Candidate's Meet & Greet event to hear what candidates will provide for Kean students this following academic year.
On Thursday, March 25, Kean Ocean Campus Life (KOCL) hosted a movie showing of Suffragette as a part of Women’s History Month. This inspiring movie focuses on the struggles of women who risked everything for the right to vote.
Maneuvering through college and making sure that one is staying on track with classes and credits can be a taxing task. A student may think they are on-track to graduate until they find out that they do not have enough credits or missed a class that was crucial to their graduation. To help upperclassmen avoid this and graduate on time, Kean has created The Cougar Climb.
A year into the affects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Kean University community now looks toward their path back to campus and coming together again safely and effectively. With the numbers of vaccinated persons rising and the knowledge of the virus increasing, the university is looking towards returning to in-person classes in the coming Fall 2021 semester.
The Kean Counseling, Accessibility, and Alcohol and Other Drug Services (KCC) hosted a virtual mindfulness event on Wednesday, March 17. This workshop is one of many in a series that will continue weekly until the end of the semester. Students who attended were able to de-stress themselves with meditation exercises that help gain control of achieving total wellness.
On Thursday, March 18, the Human Rights Institute, Kean Athletics and the Women's and Gender Studies Program held From Protest to Participation: The Role of Women in the Social Justice Movement.
Miscast the Musical: Cabaret for a Cure streamed live on Kean Theatre Council’s YouTube page with performances at 7 p.m. on March 18, 19, and at 2 p.m. on March 20, 2021 in affiliation with the Student Organization of Kean University.
On March 19, Kean P.U.L.S.E Programming Board for Unique and Lively Students (P.U.L.S.E) hosted their first Roots: Tiny Desk Concert on Youtube Live in celebration of Black History Month. Both students and staff were welcome to watch Kean students share their roots through a variety of performances from dance, spoken word and song.
The Federal Work Study (FWS) provides part time employment to students, on and off campus, with financial need. The earnings these students make are intended to meet the cost of their education. The program encourages the students receiving FWS assistance to also participate in community service activities.
On March 18, Kean’s Tomorrow’s Teachers hosted a book swap. Students were welcome to join, share and talk about all their favorite books regardless of genre.
As a part of Women’s History Month, Kean organizations hosted an event celebrating the diverse achievements of women who made changes in New Jersey. Collaboratively, the hosts shed light on many important female figures and spoke about their achievements, while educating Kean students about the resources available to them on campus.
On Friday, March 12, Residential Student Services (RSS) in collaboration with the National Council of Negro Women, Inc (NCNW) hosted a virtual yoga session via Zoom. This session allowed attendees to relax after their classes and was open to all students who wanted to expand their physical and spiritual wellness.
On Wednesday, March 10, Lambda Delta Chi, Delta Phi Epsilon and Lambda Tau Omega Sorority, Inc. held a virtual presentation discussing the awareness of Down syndrome to students.
Midterms are coming up, which can become a stressful time for students. Through these resources and advice, students can proactively approach their midterms to ensure academic success.
Campus life is one of the things that draws students in the most. What can they do and where can they go for fun while living on their college campus? Between clubs, restaurants on-campus, student lounges and off-campus establishments, Kean’s Union Campus holds it all.
