Delta Rho is the Kean Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, International Honor Society in Education. The Delta Rho chapter was established Feb. 19, 1938 by Florence Stratemeyer, Ph.D., with help from William Bagley, Ph.D. The honor society strives to prepare future educators in reaching their full potential by connecting them to resources, opportunities and other professionals.

President of Kean University Dawood Farahi, Ph.D., approved an incentive for students to achieve a 4.0 GPA for the Fall 2018 semester. First year students with an undecided major or in the College of Liberal Arts who received a 4.0 GPA were rewarded with $100 worth of Kean Bucks. The College of Liberal Arts (CLA) and the School of General Studies view this as a way to get students started off on the right track for the time that they will spend at Kean.

The college experience can vary between each and every student not only at Kean, but all around the world. What differentiates these experiences is what students choose to do with their time in university. Being involved in a variety of clubs and organizations makes a student feel connected to their campus community and helps with different aspects of their career. Home to 14 sororities, 15 fraternities and one co-educational congregation, Kean provides a diverse lineup of Greek organizations to satisfy the personal identities and interests of anyone looking to immerse themselves in the pursuits of brotherhood or sisterhood, leadership, scholarship and service. In order to allow all interested students to familiarize themselves with the members and missions of each individual organization, the Center for Leadership and Service hosted its Meet the Greeks event Jan. 31 in Harwood Arena.

Kean University's Student Health Services works to make sure students are living healthy life styles and making smart choices when it comes to their sexual health. A new initiative Kean is putting into action is the offering of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). Through a collaboration with the New Jersey Department of Health PrEP counselor program and Trinitas Early Intervention Program, Kean is looking to offer ways for students to start the process of obtaining this medication.

Kean University is an institution that aims to bring awareness to issues and topics that are necessary for the benefit of others. On Friday, Feb. 1 from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., the Center for Leadership and Service (CLS) partnered with the American Heart Association to fight against heart disease by participating in National Wear Red Day.

Every year the Center for Leadership and Service encourages students to get involved with volunteer opportunities. An exciting volunteer project hosted each spring semester is Alternative Spring Break. This is a four day overnight community service project trip that gives students the opportunity to do more than relax over their spring break, but give back to the community and to those who are in need. It is also a time for students to bond and forge new relationships with others who share a passion for volunteerism.

It's about that time Kean Cougars, welcome back! In order to ensure that students feel welcome, the Greek Senate aims to create events to involve the Kean community. On Thursday, Feb. 7 from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., the Greek Senate will be hosting its seventh Welcome Back Party in Downs Hall.

On Feb. 4, 2004 the very first issue of The Cougar's Byte was released. Initially titled, "Kean Students Online," the newsletter was created with a vision to connect students with upcoming events and opportunities around campus and has continued to expand its mission ever since. This year, Monday, Feb. 4, 2019, The Cougar's Byte celebrates its 15 year anniversary of bringing Kean news to the Kean community.

The Kean Ocean campus first opened in 2006, making history for Kean University and Ocean County College. The partnership is a joint effort on the behalf of Kean University and Ocean County College to help students from both north and south New Jersey achieve a higher education at a more manageable cost.

Every semester, the Greeks of Kean University all come together in Harwood Arena for Meet The Greeks, one of the most popular events that is held on campus. This semester, it will take place Jan. 31 from 5 to 10 p.m. Whether one is interested in joining Greek life or not, this is always sure to be a fun event for students, alumni and faculty alike as the Greek Senate work extremely hard throughout the year to plan this event for everyone to enjoy.

The Center for Leadership and Service (CLS) will be hosting various events to appreciate and honor the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during Black History Month. Additionally, the Kean community will have the opportunity to be involved in various service projects and activities, within CLS's MLK Week of Service events. The MLK Week of Service will take place from Tuesday, Feb. 19 to Sunday, Feb. 24 to spread Dr. King's message of peace.

On Friday, Feb. 1 Kean University will be honoring the American Heart Association and its cause for heart disease awareness with Go Red for Women: Wear Red Day. This day will help to raise funds and awareness of heart disease and overall cardiovascular health, specifically in women.
