On Sept. 6, 2019, the first Friday of the Fall 2019 semester, Kean University kicked the school year off with the Friday Night Football Game Kickoff. A prelude to the first football game of the season, the kickoff was not only an opportunity for the Kean community to come out and support their football team, but also a way for students to get pumped for the beggining of the sports season and school year. Starting at 4 p.m. and running until 6:30 p.m. in the Harwood Arena, the event appeared to do it's job well. It was attended by many different members of the Kean community who all appeared to be having a wonderful time.

At the start of each year, one of the academic buildings on campus is filled with Kean University's Greek organizations for the annual Greek Senate Conference. This year on Friday, Sept. 6, in the North Avenue Academic Building (NAAB), the Greeks went through multiple workshops designed to get them interacting with one another, to teach them how to continue to be good leaders and how to make the rest of the academic year a great one.

To start the semester off with a bang and celebrate the beginning of a new academic year, an event called Kean Wave transpired on the first day of classes this past Sept. 3. Kean Wave was held on the Miron Student Center (MSC) Patio from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., a great location for students to meet up with their friends they have not seen all summer. There were fun games, activities, food, giveaways and more for students to enjoy.

Kean Day, an annual event here at Kean University, is fast approaching. This year, it will be taking place Friday, Sept. 13 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. along Cougar Walk and will be hosted by the Miron Student Center. Anyone searching for a new club or organization to join or just looking to meet some new people is encouraged to come over and enjoy the day.

This year's Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2019 and as it draws closer, it becomes more imperative that everyone comes out to vote. Unfortunately, the process of voting can seem exhausting for first time voters. The first step in this process is registering to vote and while many people would like to register, many do not know how or where to do so. That is where the Kean community is stepping in to help. The Community and Volunteer Services, Human Rights Institute and the Lesniak Institute will be hosting voter registration tables leading up to Election Day to help assist the Kean community in registering to vote before Election Day.

It's that time of the year again where Kean opens its residence halls to its newest Cougars: the Class of 2023. The Class of 2023 began their college experience by moving onto campus on Sunday, Sept. 1. With the help of the Residential Student Services (RSS) staff, the move-in process and introduction to the residence halls was seamless and full of life.

Everyone on campus flooded to Wilkins Theatre this past Thursday, Aug. 28 at 10 a.m. to celebrate the beginning of the Fall 2019 semester as President Dawood Farahi, Ph.D, gave his Opening Day Address to the Kean community.

Kean University always seeks to find new ways to get students excited and prepared for the new semester. One way they plan to do this is through the annual Cougar Kick-off, which is a calendar of various events throughout the month of September to help students get involved and ready for the upcoming year.

One of the most exciting events at Kean every semester is Meet the Greeks, which is hosted by the Greek Senate. This is an event intended to inform the Kean community of the Greek Letter Organizations on campus and the efforts that they make to enhance the community, as they are very involved on campus. This year, Meet the Greeks is taking place on Wednesday, Sept. 11 from 5 to 10 p.m. in Harwood Arena.

One of the most vital departments that Kean has on campus is the Department of Public Safety, which oversees the Kean Campus Police. It is their duty to maintain a safe and secure campus environment for the Kean community. They operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week and 365 days a year, as well as provide a full law enforcement and security services to complete this mission.

Kean is always looking to give back, especially to those who are veterans. The Office of Veterans' Student Services (OVSS) is here at Kean to help transition and provide assistance to those who are veterans, service members and dependents as well. They help guide students through the stressors that may appear when applying to college, becoming acclimated on campus and navigating a new environment. It is OVSS' mission that the student always comes first.

If there is one piece of advice for students attending Kean, it is to get involved on campus as much as one can to enhance their collegiate experience. One way for students to do this, as well as receive financial benefits, is to work on campus. There are many different offices and departments on campus that hire student workers, so there is sure to be a match for everyone.

Located in the Green Lane Academic Building (GLAB), the Kean University Barnes and Noble Bookstore offers a wide variety of items and services for students to utilize. Everything from textbooks, apparel, study space and a cafe, the bookstore is sure to have what students are looking for.

Kean University is known for having a majority commuter student population, which is why it is vital for the Kean community to know the designated parking places and the procedures that follow. The university is always seeking to enhance the parking experience for students, staff, faculty and visitors alike to relieve some of the stressors that may come with this process.

One of the biggest stressors for college students is what occurs after the completion of their degree: facing the job market. Finding a job or even an internship in one's desired field can leave students feeling overwhelmed, anxious and even hopeless at times. Students should feel relieved to know that Career Services at Kean is here to help through this time and can alleviate some of the doubt.

The Center for Leadership and Service (CLS) is a student affairs hub where students can find resources in Greek affairs, campus involvement, community service, the Co-Curricular Transcript (CCT), leadership and campus news. The CLS' mission is to promote and encourage student involvement, participation and organization in campus events and organizations.

Part of Kean University's mission of offering a world-class college experience is the presentation of world-class performances through Kean Stage. Each year, Kean Stage offers a variety of different performances, showcases, and plays of all kinds to bring students and members of the community to Kean for their enjoyment. These showcases take place around campus in one of Kean's many theatres.
