Whether a freshman on campus for the first time or a senior on Cougar Walk for the last time, there is an overpowering desire to find like-minded people at a university swarming with students. Most clubs and organizations on campus can vouch that that desire is the reason they came into existence. After all, it is nice for a student to gather with people who understand him or her.

How big of an achievement can one accomplish during their first week of college? Jesse Larkin, a freshman on the Kean University women's volleyball team, received the first New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) rookie of the week award for the 2016 season. Not only was it her first time playing for Kean University, but she also helped the team win 5-0 during Kean University's opening weekend.

For the first time, the student body of Kean University voted in a woman to be the president of Student Organization (the full-time undergraduate student government). Starting the fall semester of 2016, Emily Cubilete will take on the role previously held by alumnus Nigel Donald.

The Writing Center at Kean University has a staff of graduate and undergraduate students that provide one-on-one coaching in a non-judgmental environment to members of the campus community. The Writing Center is located in room 111-E of the Maxine and Jack Lane Center for Academic Success (CAS), and is open during the Spring, Summer I, Summer II and Fall semesters.

Whenever a student is in need of a medical appointment for whatever non-emergency reason, students can rely on the office of Health Services. Health Services is there to provide the best service possible to all students, but in order for a student to receive the help one needs, he or she needs to set up an appointment.
