Dec. 10 is known by many as Human Rights Day, a day to honor the adoption of the United Nations' Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), put into action after the UN General Assembly in 1948. This day also marked the declaration’s 70th anniversary, an opportunity to reflect upon the continued importance of human rights activism around the world.

Lately Kean's gospel choir has had a series of impressive and amazing achievements. The most recent of these accomplishments was the opportunity to perform at the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular.

The first annual Kean Dance Marathon (KDM) Winter Wonderland Gala was hosted by the Greek Senate, Thursday, Nov. 29. The event transpired in the STEM building’s Donald R. Conklin Conference Center from 7 to 10:30 p.m., which was adorned with decorations from top to bottom. Guests arrived in their formal attire to enjoy a night of socialization and fun, but most importantly to raise awareness for the important cause that benefits the Children’s Specialized Hospital.

On Tuesday, Dec. 11, Chi Upsilon Sigma hosted a human trafficking informational event to bring awareness to an issue that is happening worldwide. Chi Upsilon Sigma is a Greek organization that values diversity, leadership and community. This organization had hopes of enlightening its audience while also bringing new solutions for Kean University students to know at the event.

Every November, as a part of Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, the Center for Leadership and Service (CLS) hosts events called Food for Thought designed to give students an opportunity to learn and serve people in the community with food insecurity. Two of these events took place during Homelessness Awareness Week on Nov. 14 and Nov. 16.

In a joint-effort with Kean Earth Science Club, New Jersey Higher Education Partnership for Sustainability (NJHEPS), and Kean School of Environmental and Sustainability Sciences (SESS), the Lesniak Institute for American Leadership hosted the second annual "Let's Clear The Air: A Student-Led Symposium" Wednesday, Nov. 14 from 6 to 9 p.m. to help promote environmental advocacy in New Jersey.

On Nov. 13, students across Kean University's campus celebrated World Kindness Day and Community Values Day. This allowed students to appreciate all acts of kindness, no matter how big or small. Students were also able to become educated about the resources on campus that they can utilize to their advantage. Organizations such as the Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs Task Force (AToD) and the Commuter Resource Center (CRC) held events to help students celebrate this joyous day.

This past Monday, Nov. 12, Helping Younger Hands held an event called Know Your Ribbon, which focused on educating students on different awareness ribbons. Participants were then able to design their own ribbon for themselves about subjects that are most important to them.

The homecoming pep rally took place Oct. 19 at 6 p.m. in the Harwood Arena. The event was attended by students, athletes and faculty alike in a continuation of the annual tradition to engage students and raise school spirit for the rest of the activities set to take place over the course of homecoming weekend.
