The Greek Senate at Kean University is an accumulation of students from various Greek Organizations on campus who come together to be the voice for all of the Greeks at Kean. They have meetings, plan programmings and fundraisers, while aiding the sororities and fraternities toward success.

One Billion Rising was an event held in the Center for Academic Success (CAS) First Floor Feb. 14, in response to the shocking statistics that state 1 in 3 women will be beaten or raped during their lifetime. On average, over one billion women on the planet experience abuse of some sort. Thus, One Billion Rising started on Valentine's Day in 2012 as a call to action against violence toward women.

Involvement Week was a chance for students to be interactive with the campus community, meet new people and learn about the opportunities they have available to them. A series of events were scheduled by the Involvement Center to get students to enjoy fun events, get information and explore their personal wellness. Held every semester, Involvement Week falls right around the third week of the semester. Typically around this time student involvement begins to subside. The Involvement Center uses Involvement Week to combat this and gain student interest in the options available to them.

The Student Organization Class of 2019 hosted its first ever Sweetheart Brunch in the Miron Student Center's Cougar’s Den Feb. 8. This free event gave students the chance to enjoy a brunch while socializing and participating in Valentine’s Day-themed activities.

The School of General Studies as well as its General Education Mentors (GEMs) welcomed back the freshman class with a Valentine's Day Themed Social in the Cougar's Den Thursday, Feb. 7. Students enjoyed complimentary food and drinks, coloring, games and more. The purpose of this event was to keep freshmen involved on campus throughout their second semester.

On Feb. 6, the Center for Leadership and Service (CLS) hosted this semester’s Student Involvement and Employment Fair in the Miron Student Center(MSC) Atrium. The event gave students the chance to learn about the variety of organizations that are looking to hire or recruit from the pool of talent that is present on this campus.

February is a time where people acknowledge the rich, unique and inspired history of the black community. As one of the most diverse public universities in the state, Kean has many different events and programs dedicated to celebrating Black History Month. The first of these events was the Black History Month Flag Raising Ceremony and Kickoff.

The Lunar New Year is one of the most important holidays in Asian culture. This holiday celebrates the new year and also represents the importance of honoring one's ancestors. Most importantly, this celebration brings friends and family together to celebrate the joyous event. The Kean University community all came together Feb. 5 to celebrate the year of the pig while also educating students on the traditions of the different Asian cultures.

President of Kean University Dawood Farahi, Ph.D., approved an incentive for students to achieve a 4.0 GPA for the Fall 2018 semester. First year students with an undecided major or in the College of Liberal Arts who received a 4.0 GPA were rewarded with $100 worth of Kean Bucks. The College of Liberal Arts (CLA) and the School of General Studies view this as a way to get students started off on the right track for the time that they will spend at Kean.

Home to 14 sororities, 15 fraternities and one co-educational congregation, Kean provides a diverse lineup of Greek organizations to satisfy the personal identities and interests of anyone looking to immerse themselves in the pursuits of brotherhood or sisterhood, leadership, scholarship and service. In order to allow all interested students to familiarize themselves with the members and missions of each individual organization, the Center for Leadership and Service hosted its Meet the Greeks event Jan. 31 in Harwood Arena.

Dec. 10 is known by many as Human Rights Day, a day to honor the adoption of the United Nations' Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), put into action after the UN General Assembly in 1948. This day also marked the declaration’s 70th anniversary, an opportunity to reflect upon the continued importance of human rights activism around the world.

The first annual Kean Dance Marathon (KDM) Winter Wonderland Gala was hosted by the Greek Senate, Thursday, Nov. 29. The event transpired in the STEM building’s Donald R. Conklin Conference Center from 7 to 10:30 p.m., which was adorned with decorations from top to bottom. Guests arrived in their formal attire to enjoy a night of socialization and fun, but most importantly to raise awareness for the important cause that benefits the Children’s Specialized Hospital.

On Tuesday, Dec. 11, Chi Upsilon Sigma hosted a human trafficking informational event to bring awareness to an issue that is happening worldwide. Chi Upsilon Sigma is a Greek organization that values diversity, leadership and community. This organization had hopes of enlightening its audience while also bringing new solutions for Kean University students to know at the event.

Every November, as a part of Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, the Center for Leadership and Service (CLS) hosts events called Food for Thought designed to give students an opportunity to learn and serve people in the community with food insecurity. Two of these events took place during Homelessness Awareness Week on Nov. 14 and Nov. 16.

Student Government hosted Warm Hands for the Homeless, an event that emphasized the importance of individuals having basic needs met from hygiene to nourishment, Friday, Nov. 16.
