Kean University always seeks to find new ways to get students excited and prepared for the new semester. One way they plan to do this is through the annual Cougar Kick-off, which is a calendar of various events throughout the month of September to help students get involved and ready for the upcoming year.

If there is one piece of advice for students attending Kean, it is to get involved on campus as much as one can to enhance their collegiate experience. One way for students to do this, as well as receive financial benefits, is to work on campus. There are many different offices and departments on campus that hire student workers, so there is sure to be a match for everyone.

Balancing classes, extracurricular activities and a job are no easy feat, especially all while maintaining a 4.0 GPA, but senior Ashley Figueiredo has found the secret. She attributes her success here at Kean to her ability to set prominent goals for herself and keep motivating herself to achieve them.

Hosted by Student Organization, the sophomore class, the junior class and P.U.L.S.E, Kean Karnival took place Monday, April 29 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. on the Miron Student Center (MSC) Patio. The event was filled with music, carnival games, food and activities for students to enjoy right before the finals season hits.

With graduation coming up faster than anyone can stop it, it's important for seniors to start thinking about what their futures hold. Some might be going to graduate school, beginning work in their respective fields or doing whatever they can to pay off student loans. Regardless of their position, an undergraduate degree provides opportunities that are limitless, as Kean provides its students with various platforms to launch off.

Student Organization of Kean University and the Social Work Club partnered together to host the panel, Influencing Change: Women Social Workers in Leadership, as part of Women's History Month and Social Work Month. The panel featured New Jersey Lieutenant Governor Sheila Oliver, Assemblywoman Joann Downey, J.D., Executive Director for the National Association of Social Workers-New Jersey Chapter Jennifer Thompson, MSW and Executive Director of the Family Service Bureau Manuela Garcia, LCSW, who brought their knowledge and expertise to Kean students.

The Kean University Leadership Institute is known to both train, mentor and provide the student leaders on campus. They take in underclassmen and throughout their four-year program create the university's best student leaders who reach great heights. Shelsea Araujo is a Kean freshman in the Leadership Institute who is on her way to achieving great accomplishments and finding her way in the Kean community.

Greek Senate hosted the annual Kean Dance Marathon (KDM) in Harwood Arena Friday, April 12 with a multitude of fundraising and activities. This 12-hour event concluded the fundraising efforts made throughout the year. Although KDM was a night of fun, everyone came to support an important cause: the children at the Children's Specialized Hospital.

The Greek Olympics continued on Thursday with the ultimate test of strength, and teamwork. Fraternities and Sororities competed in a three-legged race, a tug of war, and a relay race to once again discover who will be crowned champion.

The Leadership Institute had a night of fashion and music during its Project Kean fashion show Wednesday, April 10 in the Miron Student Center Little Theatre to raise money for the Children's Specialized Hospital.

Zijia Abigail Zhou, better known as Abigail, is an exchange student from Wenzhou-Kean (WKU) who has dived straight into involving and submerging herself in everything the Main Campus in Union, NJ has to offer. In only her first semester here, she has become a member of Wenzhou-Kean University Student Association, been hired to work with the Involvement Center and volunteered at multiple student community service projects like Alternative Spring Break and Community Food Bank.

Kean University students partnered with Habitat for Humanity for this year's Alternative Spring Break project. The project took place from Tuesday, March 12 to Saturday, March 16 at an Asbury Park Habitat for Humanity project that will be home to a single mother and her four children.

Best-selling author Chelsea Clinton will be discussing the issue of endangered animals as well as her new children's book Don’t Let Them Disappear during a special lecture event and book signing at Enlow Recital Hall Thursday, April 4. The Human Rights Institute will be hosting its 12th annual International Human Rights Conference, Hunger: The Politics of Food, at Wilkins Theatre from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, March 22 to spread awareness about worldwide hunger and ways to prevent it. Moreover, the Human Rights Institute is an organization that prides itself on providing information, events and programs for human rights issues around the globe.
