It was back to school for both students and their families this past Family Day, held Saturday, Oct. 5. Kean students' families were invited for a full day of all things Kean as they toured with their loved ones to preview what a day in the life of a Kean student was like.

Student Organization of Kean University (Student Org), the full-time undergraduate student government at Kean, has released their Fall 2019 bus trip calendar. Whether you like history, hockey, Broadway shows or paintballing, Student Org has a trip for you this semester. Kean student tickets for the bus trips range in price from $15 to $25, offering students the opportunity to experience these trips at the fraction of the cost. Most trips also allow Kean students to being non-Kean student guests, but for $10 more than the student price.

Beginning Friday, Oct. 24, Kean University will begin its weekend of celebrations for their annual Homecoming. This is a time where students, alumni, faculty, staff and their families all come together to show their Kean Pride, and there is no better way to celebrate than with the chosen theme this year: Cougar's Climb Higher.

If there's one thing senior exercise science major, Juan Leon-Torres believes in it is that physical and mental health go hand and hand. He believes this so strongly, that he has begun to implement an Exercise and Wellness Program to help other student veterans like himself as well as to the Kean student body as a whole to come together and exercise more.

Throughout the month of October, Kean University rallies together to help spread awareness and raise funds for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This month is dedicated to the millions of individuals around the world that are affected by breast cancer. To honor those affected, multiple groups and departments on the Kean campus are holding events that bring the campus community together and to help support the cause.

A healthy life is one of the keys to a happy life. Unfortunately, not all students will have the time, resources, or the knowledge on how to do so. Luckily for the Kean community, during the week of Monday, Sept. 30 to Friday, Oct. 4 The Kean Wellness Task Force and Student Health Services will be hosting Health and Wellness Week.

On Tuesday, Sept. 17 the Office of Student Government hosted Discover Kean to expose students to the various resources on campus. The event took place in the Nancy Thompson Learning Commons (NTLC) and featured multiple departments.

The Kean University community honored the anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, by holding a remembrance and moment of silence on the Miron Student Center Patio. This remembrance included speeches and readings from members of the Kean community including Susan Figueroa, managing assistant director for Community Service and Civic Engagement, Mariama Roldan, campus minister, Dawood Farahi, Ph.D., Kean University president and a few of Kean's student leaders.

At 5 p.m Wednesday, Sept. 11, the Harwood Arena was abuzz with excitement as the finishing touches were placed around the room for the night's Meet the Greeks event. An affair that takes place once each semester, Meet the Greeks is hosted by the Greek Senate, a governing body over the Greeks on campus that is also made up of members of different Greek organizations. Together they put on this fun night, where all the Greek organizations on campus got a chance to represent themselves, their values and try to bring new people into their ranks.

The Cougar Climb is a new incentive created by Kean University to help students garner the best college experience possible. The Cougar Climb was also built to help students stay on track to graduate within four years. Incoming freshmen for this 2019-2020 school year are the first of the Kean student body to have the opportunity to utilize the Cougar Climb.

To start the semester off with a bang and celebrate the beginning of a new academic year, an event called Kean Wave transpired on the first day of classes this past Sept. 3. Kean Wave was held on the Miron Student Center (MSC) Patio from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., a great location for students to meet up with their friends they have not seen all summer. There were fun games, activities, food, giveaways and more for students to enjoy.

It's that time of the year again where Kean opens its residence halls to its newest Cougars: the Class of 2023. The Class of 2023 began their college experience by moving onto campus on Sunday, Sept. 1. With the help of the Residential Student Services (RSS) staff, the move-in process and introduction to the residence halls was seamless and full of life.

Kean University always seeks to find new ways to get students excited and prepared for the new semester. One way they plan to do this is through the annual Cougar Kick-off, which is a calendar of various events throughout the month of September to help students get involved and ready for the upcoming year.

If there is one piece of advice for students attending Kean, it is to get involved on campus as much as one can to enhance their collegiate experience. One way for students to do this, as well as receive financial benefits, is to work on campus. There are many different offices and departments on campus that hire student workers, so there is sure to be a match for everyone.

Balancing classes, extracurricular activities and a job are no easy feat, especially all while maintaining a 4.0 GPA, but senior Ashley Figueiredo has found the secret. She attributes her success here at Kean to her ability to set prominent goals for herself and keep motivating herself to achieve them.

Hosted by Student Organization, the sophomore class, the junior class and P.U.L.S.E, Kean Karnival took place Monday, April 29 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. on the Miron Student Center (MSC) Patio. The event was filled with music, carnival games, food and activities for students to enjoy right before the finals season hits.

With graduation coming up faster than anyone can stop it, it's important for seniors to start thinking about what their futures hold. Some might be going to graduate school, beginning work in their respective fields or doing whatever they can to pay off student loans. Regardless of their position, an undergraduate degree provides opportunities that are limitless, as Kean provides its students with various platforms to launch off.
