On Friday, Feb. 12, Kean's Programming for Unique and Lively Student Experience (P.U.L.S.E.) and the Center for Leadership and Service (CLS) held a virtual self-defense class with the We Save Lives Fitness Gym in New Brunswick, NJ in honor of One Billion Rising: Violence Against Women via Zoom from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Students such as Jennifer Pillaga are just some examples of an artist who is expanding her craft while taking advantage of as many opportunities as she can in the performing arts field.
On the first weekend of February, Women's Basketball at Kean University stepped onto the court for their first two games of the season. Both against New Jersey City University (NJCU). The Lady Cougars played on Friday, Feb. 5 at 5 p.m. at home in Harwood Arena and then again on Saturday, Feb. 6 at 3 p.m. away at NJCU.
On Feb. 12, Kean P.U.L.S.E Programming Board for Unique and Lively students (P.U.L.S.E) hosted a virtual Lunar New Year celebration. Kean students were given the opportunity to learn traditions on how to bring in the Lunar New Year, gain knowledge on Chinese culture and even had the chance to receive a Year of the Ox T-shirt.

On Wednesday, Feb. 10, the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion hosted the Student Research Seminar where two students from a Research and Technology course gave a presentation on the studies they conducted for their projects. The entire discussion was facilitated by Lydia Kaplan, M.Ed., a professor with the School of General Studies.
The sisters of Chi Upsilon Sigma National Latin Sorority Inc. along with the sisters of Mu Sigma Upsilon Sorority Inc. and the brothers of Lambda Sigma Upsilon Latino Fraternity Inc. hosted a discussion panel on Tuesday, Feb. 9. What are the norms of a relationship? What are the ups and downs of being in a relationship?
The Graduate & Part-time Student Council as well as Student Organization were hosts for a night of live stand-up comedy virtual tour Wednesday, Feb. 10 with comedian/actor, Ron Funches. Interested attendees were asked to preregister for this fun-filled event by using LoopedLive.com. Once registered, the audience was able to view the event by downloading the Looped app, clicking on MY EVENTS (via desktop) or if using the app were able to sign in with an email address.
As a part of Black History Month, Student Health Services (SHS) hosted a special viewing party for the movie, Miss Evers’ Boys. Along with this showing, a panel event was later held to discuss the film as well as important health information.

With the Lunar New Year coming up, P.U.L.S.E. has planned an event at Kean to help students celebrate and learn about the traditions of the holiday.
The transition to remote learning was difficult for many faculty and students during the spring semester of 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic happened suddenly and many were not prepared to continue their education remotely. Students were expected to quickly adapt to this “new norm,” while trying to balance the changes that were going on around them. Daniel Armah and Rebecca Obeng highlight their experience as virtual students and also discuss the hardest part about learning from home.
Involvement is a vital aspect of the collegiate experience for students. It allows students to learn more about topics that interest them while making connections with peers and staff. At Kean University, one of the main hubs of student involvement is through the Involvement Center.

Who are the Cougar Volunteers? Cougar Volunteers are a representation of Kean faculty, students and staff. These are the heroic individuals committed to volunteering their services for Kean University as well as surrounding communities.
Kean University has stood as a key center for COVID-19 testing throughout the on-going pandemic. Expanding upon its status as an integral part in maintaining the virus's spread, Kean is now one of Union County's vaccination centers.
