March is declared as Women’s History Month, a time to recognize women’s contributions to culture and society through history. Influential women have paved the way to allow today’s generation to achieve more than ever possible before. Kean University recognizes these contributions and celebrates the women within their community and beyond.

As we move quickly through our Spring 2021 semester, the time has come once again to begin thinking about registration and the schedule for the upcoming semester. It can be difficult to navigate KeanWise and to pick courses, not only for incoming students but for the students doing it remotely. Kean has implemented a new student planning program to aid in making scheduling courses a little easier.

As a part of Women’s History Month, Kean organizations hosted an event celebrating the diverse achievements of women who made changes in New Jersey. Collaboratively, the hosts shed light on many important female figures and spoke about their achievements, while educating Kean students about the resources available to them on campus.

The Wenzhou-Kean University Board of Directors recently announced that they are electing one non-voting student representative to serve on the board. The student elected will serve a two-year term concluding June 30, 2023.

The Graduate and Part-Time Student Council and Student Organization hosted another live virtual tour on Wednesday, March 3. Attendees watched a Q&A/mini-performance from the country music duo, Maddie + Tae. This event was held once again through Loopedlive.com where everyone who wanted to watch was asked to pre-register beforehand.

Gourmet Dining has been a loyal provider at Kean University and an integral part in providing fine-dining options all throughout campus. Along with well-known establishments such as Starbucks and Jersey Mikes, Gourmet Dining gives students meal plans to suit everyone’s campus lifestyle. Now, Gourmet Dining has teamed up with the Cougar Pantry to aid food-insecure students during these tough times.

On Wednesday, Feb. 17, the Graduate and Part-time Student Council alongside the Student Organization of Kean University came together to bring the On Your Campus Virtual Tour to students, where they had the opportunity to tune into a live musical set from rapper Young M.A. After her performance, Young M.A. partook in a Q & A with staff.

On the first weekend of February, Women's Basketball at Kean University stepped onto the court for their first two games of the season. Both against New Jersey City University (NJCU). The Lady Cougars played on Friday, Feb. 5 at 5 p.m. at home in Harwood Arena and then again on Saturday, Feb. 6 at 3 p.m. away at NJCU.

On Feb. 12, Kean P.U.L.S.E Programming Board for Unique and Lively students (P.U.L.S.E) hosted a virtual Lunar New Year celebration. Kean students were given the opportunity to learn traditions on how to bring in the Lunar New Year, gain knowledge on Chinese culture and even had the chance to receive a Year of the Ox T-shirt.

The Graduate & Part-time Student Council as well as Student Organization were hosts for a night of live stand-up comedy virtual tour Wednesday, Feb. 10 with comedian/actor, Ron Funches. Interested attendees were asked to preregister for this fun-filled event by using LoopedLive.com. Once registered, the audience was able to view the event by downloading the Looped app, clicking on MY EVENTS (via desktop) or if using the app were able to sign in with an email address.

On Thursday, Feb. 1, Kean P.U.L.S.E. held its Black History Month Kickoff via YouTube to honor the culture and achievements of people of African descent. Spoken word, dances, singing and other festivities were displayed in this program.

On Friday, Feb. 5, Kean University hosted the annual Wear Red Day walk event to promote awareness for cardiovascular disease and the importance of a healthy heart. This interactive event allowed students to engage in fun activities from a virtual platform to help spread messages of positivity on how important it is to be physically active.

Welcome to the winner's circle. Premiere Stages has awarded their annual Bauer Boucher Awards to this year's recipients, Lucien Edme and Megan Hoche. Edme, part of Kean's Class of 2021 was the official student recipient for the award for his play, Councilman. On the other hand, Hoche has also received the Alumnus Award for her play titled, Forever Mom.

In the fall of every academic year, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) opens the process for students to determine their eligibility for financial aid which is done through an online form on the Federal Student Aid website.Having eligibility for financial aid helps students afford tuition costs as attending a university is costly and many expenses such as classes, supplies and housing must be paid for. Through FAFSA, students are able to receive scholarships and grants which is money they do not have to pay back. The university offers a number of resources for students to apply and receive free funding for their college experience.

As one of the most diverse public universities in the state, Kean has many different events and programs dedicated to celebrating Black History Month. Every year, the organizations at Kean University honor its diverse student population and its rich African American history by celebrating Black History Month during February.

The spotlight is earned by those who take opportunities to inspire others. Being a student leader and a member of the arts community can be time-consuming, but rewarding, too. People like Spenser Williams make sure to use all of the opportunities at their disposal to establish themselves and their projects. It is also students such as Williams who inspire a new generation of Kean cougars with their involvement.
