Kean University hosted Abigail E. Disney and Reverend Rob Schenck to discuss their documentary "The Armor of Light" and its relation to whether one can indeed be pro-gun and pro-life in today's society. The two presented as part of Kean's Distinguished Lecture Series March 6 in the Science, Technology and Mathematics (STEM) Auditorium.

Research Days 2019 is slated for Tuesday, April 23 and Wednesday, April 24 from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the STEM Building. Students and faculty are encouraged to show support to their fellow peers who will be presenting in a variety of ways throughout the two days.

The National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) and Sigma Gamma Rho sorority will be hosting Embracing the Crown: I AM in Miron Student Center (MSC) Room 228 March 25 from 8 to 10 p.m. This workshop will feature the groups' members in their mission to facilitate positive communication and conversation.

Best-selling author Chelsea Clinton will be discussing the issue of endangered animals as well as her new children's book Don’t Let Them Disappear during a special lecture event and book signing at Enlow Recital Hall Thursday, April 4. Kean University students are given the opportunity to showcase their creativity and talents in many forms. With that being said, the School of English Studies department and Kean Chapter of Sigma Tau Delta are calling for all writing and poetry enthusiasts to enter the annual poetry contest. With another year, comes another chance for students to display their poetry. The award ceremony for the Fourth Annual Poetry Contest will take place Thursday, April 25.

Lockey Maisonneuve delivered her powerful story of tragedy, horror, healing and hope to Kean University students, staff and the general public in the STEM Auditorium March 7. A true jack of all trades, Maisonneuve is an accomplished author, yoga teacher and dog-loving Cranford native. The dedicated wife and mother of two lives a seemingly stable and well-adjusted life, but her background tells a different story.

Beginning March 22 in the Miron Student Center, Room 226, the event is an opportunity for students partaking in Lent to enjoy meatless food options and commune about how their Lent is going.

The Human Rights Institute will be hosting its 12th annual International Human Rights Conference, Hunger: The Politics of Food, at Wilkins Theatre from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, March 22 to spread awareness about worldwide hunger and ways to prevent it. Moreover, the Human Rights Institute is an organization that prides itself on providing information, events and programs for human rights issues around the globe.

The Student Organization Class of 2022 will be hosting the Hoops 4 Hearts basketball tournament Tuesday, March 19 from 8 to 10 p.m. to raise funds for the American Heart Association. Students are invited to round up a group of friends to enroll into the basketball tournament. It only costs $5 to participate and all proceeds go to a great cause.

The Leadership Institute's Silver Leadership Program will be hosting a fashion show at Miron Student Center (MSC) Little Theater Wednesday, April 10 at 8 p.m. to help raise funds for the Children's Specialized Hospital. Every year the Leadership Institute asks its Silver level leaders to create an original event that they will plan, create and host. Through this event, students will gain skills in communication, cooperation and common purpose while supporting the Children's Specialized Hospital in Mountainside, New Jersey.

Kean University is dedicated to aiding their students to academic success. One new way that the university plans on enacting this is with the recent Graduation Incentive Program. This plan was put into action to assist students and ensure that they are graduating in four years. This program was possible through collaboration among the Office of the Registrar, Division of Academic Affairs, deans, faculty members and Scholarship Services.

A transportation project created by a group of Kean’s industrial design students was chosen to be exhibited at the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum. One of only five universities chosen to be represented throughout the country, the exhibit, titled “A Day in the Life of a Kean Student,” has been on display since December and will continue to be shown until March 31.
