On Thursday, Sept. 16, Greek Senate's annual Meet the Greeks happened virtually via Cougar Link for the first time ever, as restrictions on gatherings remain in effect due to the current health crisis. Meet the Greeks began at 7:30 p.m. and concluded at 9:30 p.m.

The chaos of 2020 could not stop Americans from taking a somber moment to remember the events of 9/11. One of the ways the Kean community memorialized the precious lives that perished that day was by participating in the annual National Day of Service and Remembrance on Sept. 11 through virtual service events.

With many students learning remotely, it has been a struggle for some to find quality social interaction. As the university gears up to begin hybrid and face-to-face instruction, students are looking for ways to remain in contact with their friends, family and colleagues. Fortunately, there is an array of apps that students could choose from to fulfill this purpose.

This year, Meet the Greeks will take place Wednesday, Sept. 16 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in a virtual fair format on Cougar Link. Meet the Greeks is an event hosted by the Greek Senate that brings together all the different Greek organizations for a night filled with activities, performances, and camaraderie between all of the brothers and sisters of Greek Life and those interested in getting involved with the community.

With the implementation of new safety guidelines as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, Kean has introduced a mobile dining app for students and faculty to utilize. Through this application, one can order food from all of the campus eateries at a specified location and pick-up time. This has allowed those on campus to get food more safely and conveniently.

As Kean restarts for a fall semester with health and safety a chief concern, the university has made appropriate changes to many student resources around campus. Between Sept. 21 and Thanksgiving, when nearly a quarter of classes will return in face-to-face and hybrid settings, the adjustments made to printing services within the campus computer labs will be invaluable.

On Monday, July 6 at 7 p.m., Student Organization hosted a virtual workshop with consultant Tony Parrales, president of Parrales Consulting LLC and a Kean University alumnus, covering strategies for successful interviews, including remote interviews, particularly vital to recent and upcoming graduates in an increasingly distanced workforce. The workshop was conducted, appropriately, on Zoom.

As Kean University students anticipate the end of what has been, to say the least, an unconventional Spring semester, final exams remain an intellectual and psychological challenge as much as ever. The shift to remote education requires that, in addition to their usual study practices, and in place of many on-campus options, students adapt to new study skills and remain focused on their mental health, while also maintaining their own schedules, and using digital tools to stay successful.

Undeterred by the move to remote education, Kean Research Days proceeded as scheduled, going live online April 28. In lieu of in-person festivities, a special guest speaker, the faculty research mentor and undergraduate researcher of the year, awards for event design, extensive poster and oral presentations and further information were each honored and detailed through a new page on the Kean University website.

As courses at Kean have transitioned to online learning during the latter half of the Spring semester, Supplementary Instruction (SI) has migrated to remote services as well, continuing to provide Kean students with peer-directed help in challenging classes that which contributes to better grades and a well-rounded learning experience.

During this challenging time, Student Health Services (SHS) remains accessible to all matriculated Kean University students. They will continue to operate on a remote telehealth model until at least the conclusion of the Summer I session. Kean sophomore Kobe Robinson is no stranger to getting involved and making a difference in the community. Already an ambitious member of several student groups and pillar of the student body, Robinson was elected Alternate Student Trustee for the Kean University Board of Trustees on April 16.

With the recent transition to remote education, there are many different tips and tricks to help maintain a normal workout routine. These tips and tricks are here to ensure students are getting the benefits of a healthy lifestyle from the comfort of their own home instead of sitting on the couch all day binge-watching Netflix.
