On Wednesday, April 19, the Kean P.U.L.S.E. Programming Board will be hosting its Night Market event. Students can look forward to free food and giveaways, unique vendors, and an unforgettable experience.
"Night markets are usually held in different countries around the world where small vendors come together to sell their products to local people or tourists," said Kayla Vares, global cultural civic and national manager of Kean P.U.L.S.E Programming Board.
Since students reacted wonderfully to the market last year, Kean P.U.L.S.E. made it a goal to make this one bigger and better. The Night Market will occur in the Hardwood Arena Parking lot from 8 to 11 p.m. If it rains, the location will be moved to Downs Hall.
The Night Market is the perfect time for students to gain exposure to cultures outside of their own and to understand the dynamics of bargaining when shopping. This event can influence how students participate in market events in other countries.
"We want to make sure we bring this experience to Kean to not only let students experience different cultures but as a way to teach students to haggle with the vendors to get the price they think is most reasonable," said Vares. "We have also expanded the Night Market to give Kean students a platform to showcase their small businesses."
Students will experience different cultures through food, beverages, and products. Vendors will represent various countries, and participants will have the chance to bargain for the items they want.
"We will have many different vendors come in to showcase different types of food and drinks from different cultures,” said Vares. “We will be giving students a set amount of money, and they have to haggle with the different vendors to get the lowest price on our amazing giveaways."
The Night Market event will aid students as they strengthen their negotiating skills in a fun and exciting way. If students want to learn more about the event, they can visit Cougar Link.
