On Friday, December 9, Kean Dance Theatre is hosting its annual winter showcase. This year’s performance will be held in Wilkins Theatre from 7 to 8 p.m. It’s catered to fit everyone’s taste because there will be a little bit of everything there.
“The members of Kean Dance Theatre have worked tirelessly to organize a successful show and we encourage you to attend our event and see first hand the hard work and talent that was put in organizing this event,” said Kean Dance Theatre President Davaughnia Wilson.
Kean Dance Theatre is partnering with the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for a show whose theme is based on the movie “Mean Girls.” This will also be the first time where a Step performance is included. Many other dances will be presented at this year’s showcase including:
- Lyrical
- Tap
- Contemporary
- Hip-Hop
- Jazz
- Heels
- Poms
- Musical Theatre
“While some of our members have years of dance experience and have danced competitively, we have members that joined our organization to learn how to dance and to be a part of an organization that will help them develop their craft and love for dance,” said Wilson.
Founded in 1979, Kean Dance Theatre has been a place for all students to come together through the art of dance. Throughout the years, the group aspires to promote dances that are performed and choreographed by the Kean community. Kean Dance Theatre has performed for the university at many events including pep rallies, Homecoming, and Culture Fest.
The showcase is a fundraising event and all proceeds go to the Kean Dance Theatre. These funds will help them fund their other showcase in the spring.
Admission for the show is $5 and doors open at 6:30 p.m. for all students, staff, and outside guests. Tickets can be purchased through the Kean University Tickets website.
