Looking for a fun club where one can make friends and learn something new? Kean University's Gardening Club offers that and so much more to it’s eager members. Those who enjoy gardening can come together to garden, participate in activities and learn more about gardening. No gardening experience is necessary to join, just grab a shovel and come to learn!
Having started in spring of 2020, the Gardening Club has been completely virtual. President Gianna Lepanto, a junior majoring in English and the 40 members have been learning how to garden, how to grow different types of plants, etc. for the past two semesters.
When asked what she is looking forward to for the Gardening club's fourth semester, Lepanto said, “Being in-person! Since its creation, the club has been online only because of Covid, so I would love for us to be able to meet in-person and have events on campus!
With campus going back to normal for the fall 2021 semester, there is hope for the Gardening Club to finally have a chance to be in person and get their hands dirty planting gardens around campus. With the semester being over, there are no events being held at the moment for students but the Gardening club has plenty of plans for the upcoming fall semester.
Lepanto said, “We’re hoping that we will be able to meet in-person, with the campus opening back up and people returning to in-person classes. We would like to be able to host some outdoor events and hopefully even do some actual gardening on campus!”
Having a Gardening Club at Kean opens up so many opportunities to not only make friends but to have an outlet for the stresses of school and life in general. With the past year and the struggles of virtual classes, fueling a passion or creating a new one is a bright light for the beginning of getting back to normal.
Lepanto shared that her favorite part about the Gardening Club is, “Getting to interact with other Kean students and share my passion for gardening with them.”
