Getting Recognized
Through the help of the Involvement Center, student groups are able to be recognized to help students become involved on campus.

Each academic year, student groups need to re-register their organizations to remain recognized by the university. Student groups do this by completing the Student Group Recognition Form, which is available on Cougar Link.

Kean University recognizes over 160 different clubs and organizations. These organizations are separated into the following eight categories: professional, service, cultural, recreational, religious, performance, governmental and special interest. All of the organizations are unique and have strong goals to better their community, themselves or personal skills.

Students interested in creating their own clubs on campus can do so by visiting the Involvement Center, located in the Miron Student Center, Room 303. It is also important to note that new student groups must have at least 10 active members, with one being the president and one being a note-taker/secretary. A treasurer is also necessary if the student group is planning on managing money as well. Additionally, all student groups are required to have a full-time faculty advisor.

For new student groups, one must also be logged into Cougar Link and then access their organization’s webpage. One can find the form on the organization’s tab on Cougar Link and select ‘register an organization.’

Student groups should also already be in the process of their executive board elections to have an e-board for the upcoming fall semester.

All student groups, returning and new, must have a Constitution. This document states the logistics of the organization such as the executive board positions and duties, member expectations, vacancies, election protocol and more. If one needs help creating or editing a constitution for their student group, be sure to check out this Kean webpage.

Another task for student groups to complete is look over their roster on Cougar Link. Be sure to add or remove students based on the requirements stated in the student group’s constitution. This ensures that the proper information is reflected in the students Co-Curricular Transcript.

For more information about the clubs and organizations on campus and how to start one, contact the Involvement Center located in the Miron Student Center, Room 303 by calling (908) 737-5270 or by visiting their website.
