The Graduate & Part-time Student Council as well as Student Organization were hosts for a night of live stand-up comedy virtual tour Wednesday, Feb. 10 with comedian/actor, Ron Funches. Interested attendees were asked to preregister for this fun-filled event by using LoopedLive.com. Once registered, the audience was able to view the event by downloading the Looped app, clicking on MY EVENTS (via desktop) or if using the app were able to sign in with an email address.
Ron Funches has various accomplishments to his name. Funches legendary voice could be heard in cinematic projects such as the movie Trolls, the Fox syndicate Bob's Burgers, or the animated show, Adventure Time. Funches has also had memorable acting roles on television shows such as The Goldbergs, Blackish, New Girl, Transparent, Powerless and Undateable. Funches even made being a member of a gang funny and likable in the film Get Hard. His personal appearances include Conan, The Tonight Show, Match Game, To Tell the Truth, Chopped, Cupcake Wars with various other accolades to fill his impressive resume. In addition to acting and lending his voice, Funches writing credits include The Eric Andre Show, Kroll Show with various other pilot shows in the works.
It was a night of laughter and enlightenment as various other colleges and universities in addition to Kean became a part of Ron’s virtual audience. Funches spoke freely about the difficulties during the pandemic, the struggles of relationships and how blessed he is with his second marriage as well as the importance of family relative to the challenges with his autistic son.
While engaging and entertaining during this remote tell-all, Ron’s focus was to motivate and encourage anyone who was listening not to give up one’s dreams regardless of adversities presented to them. It will not always be easy but remain focused as the road to success lies in the battles that are overcome.
Funches ended his segment with a Q&A from his listeners which were moderated by a mediator to share the many questions he was receiving from college students across the USA. Even Kean University was featured in questioning when asking Funches what he would recommend for someone who was interested in pursuing a career in comedy. Funches responses were quick, attentive and inspirational as he encouraged his listeners. Ron’s overall persona and this virtual tour is a reminder that comedic relief is much needed during a time of crisis and that through motivation, an open mind and an honest approach to life, anything is possible.
