Winter break is over and the Spring 2020 semester has officially begun. Even though it is not Spring just yet, students had a chance to relax and mingle with one another on Tuesday, Jan. 22, during Student Organization's Cougar Kick-off: Loco for Cocoa. There was hot cocoa, sweets and even a special appearance from the Kean Cougar itself.
Starting a new semester can be exciting and nerve-wracking at the same time, but Student Organization wanted students of all grade levels to ease into the new year with style. Loco for Cocoa allowed students to get excited for the upcoming new year with some tips and life hacks for being a successful college student. Some of these included how to make easy meals in just 5 to 10 minutes and how to maintain a high G.P.A. during the semester. All the while, students enjoyed cups of hot cocoa with many flavors to choose from, as well as some tasty treats.
"We wanted students to have an enjoyable experience, all while, at the same time, learning tips to do well this semester, as well as letting them know of many opportunities to get more involved this new year," said Laura Francisco, assistant coordinator for the P.U.L.S.E. Programming Board.
Students learned all of these tips and tricks and met some new friends, which helped motivate them to do well and get more involved on campus. Freshmen, specifically, were excited to see all of the events and opportunities Kean has to offer regarding involvement and the many ways to network through events such as this.
"I have had an incredible time so far here at Kean! My professors really care about their students, which makes me more involved with my learning...and I have made new, best friends that I could not find anywhere else. I'm looking forward to this semester's Meet the Greeks, and, hopefully, [to] get more involved with Greek Life on campus, and check out a few sororities," said Emma Rollo, a freshman studying forensic psychology.
The Kean Cougar mascot even made a special appearance to give out free hugs for students as part of National Hug Day. National Hug Day occurs every year on Jan. 21. Students definitely felt the relaxed vibes during Cougar Kickoff and are very excited to see what Kean has to offer next for the new year.
"Kean was not my first choice, but once I came here, I realized right away it was the school for me. They have so many resources that help and benefit me with planning my future career," said Adamariz Pacheco-Tipanta, a freshman studying cellular molecular biology.
The Cougar Kickoff was a complete success. To learn more about all of the upcoming events at Kean, make sure to check out Cougar Link for more details and learn about the opportunities to get more involved on campus.
