It's about that time Kean Cougars, welcome back! In order to ensure that students feel welcome, the Greek Senate aims to create events to involve the Kean community. On Thursday, Feb. 7 from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., the Greek Senate will be hosting its seventh Welcome Back Party in Downs Hall.
Greek Senate usually hosts a Welcome Back Party at the beginning of each semester to get students excited for what is to come. With the Welcome Back Party happening close to Valentine's Day, the Greek Senate created a sweetheart themed Welcome Back Party for students to get into the holiday spirit.
Aside from welcoming the Kean community, they also seek to collect proceeds for the Kean Dance Marathon (KDM). KDM is an event hosted annually by the Greek Senate for the Children's Specialized Hospital in Mountainside, New Jersey to assist children with special health challenges.
For people interested, the Greek Senate wants them to know that everyone is welcome to attend. Moreover, people interested in attending must purchase a ticket at the Wilkins Theatre Box Office. For Kean students tickets cost $5, while non-Kean student tickets are $7.
Gabriella Lapointe, vice president of programming for the Greek Senate, wanted to inform students of what they could expect at the event.
"Upon entering this event, students can expect a social event including music and mingling with members of the Kean community," said Lapointe. "This event was created to kick off the spring semester and get the students excited to be back on campus; therefore, we want to give them something to remember."
Lapointe recalled the outcome of last semester's Welcome Back Party and aimed to provide a fun event for her peers.
"The Fall 2018 Welcome Back Party was sold out, and it was so much fun to be back with our fellow Kean students, kicking off the new semester with music and dancing," Lapointe said. "For this Welcome Back Party, we are trying to make it even better by reaching out to more students to increase our students' involvement on campus."
For those looking for an exciting night on campus, consider attending this event with the opportunity to mix and connect with Greek life and other peers.
