- anxiety
- depression

- sexual assault
- gender identity/sexuality concerns
Students with these stressors and more can come to the Counseling Center for assistance in dealing with them. Equipped with a team of professionals eager to aid students, the Counseling Center is a welcoming place for students that can lead to positive results in their lives. Whether one is personally struggling with an issue or knows of someone who is, the center can be an important part of one's collegiate career.
Students should understand that they should never have to deal with a problem on their own. As individuals grow up, society feeds us this message of independence and self-reliance. Yet there are many instances where individuals simply need a helping hand. The Counseling Center will lend that helping hand to students who are willing to reach out for it.
The Counseling Center offers two main services: mental health services and alcohol and drug services. Any problem students are confronted with fit under these two branches.
Students dealing with mental health issues are free to utilize the mental health services. Here, students are met with caring counselors who are adept in facilitating student progress in dealing with mental health issues. Whether it is through individual or group counseling, students can be pointed in the right direction. If needed, psychiatry and medication management are available. Sessions with the center's on-site psychiatrist are only available to individuals currently being counseled. Referral to an outside provider is possible if the student needs more intense care.
Alcohol and drug services meet the needs of those struggling with either of those two vices. This service is designed to help students with their alcohol and drug use. Prevention and intervention programs are available to all students.
All in all, the Counseling Center is a vital part of Kean University. By being the guiding light for students in times of crisis and hardships, the center can help alleviate the burdens associated with it.
