Midterms are coming up and, sooner than later, finals will be right around the corner. Sometimes the library is full of students studying, and looking for another peaceful place can be time-consuming and stressful.
At Kean University, there are plenty of options available for students to study.
-
East Campus
- At Nathan Weiss Graduate College, there is an open student lounge for students to quietly study. It is located on the second floor.
- If needed, there is also a computer lab where students may study. Be aware that some classes take place in the computer lab, so think ahead and bring a laptop just in case.
- At Cafe Yumba, there is a lounge where students can study while they eat.
-
Liberty Hall Campus
- At the New Jersey Center for Science, Technology and Mathematics (STEM) Building, there is an open lounge for students to quietly study. It is located near the entrance of the building.
- There are six floors in the STEM Building, but only five of them have classrooms. On every floor, there is a mini lounge area where students can sit down, get comfortable and study.
- If the room is open and no class is in session, students can do group work in a classroom. Please be mindful of how the room looked before entering, and leave the classroom as clean as it was when it was found. If students bring their own whiteboard marker and eraser, peer tutoring can also take place.
-
Main Campus
- Wilkins Theatre has a lobby full of couches where students can sit and study. The lobby is located right by the main entrance. There are also power outlets for students to plug in their laptops and phones, if needed.
- Vaughn-Eames Hall has a lobby with chairs and tables where students can study. The lobby is located right by the main entrance.
- Willis Hall has a mini lobby. The lobby is good for solo studying or groups of two or three. It is located by the vending machines on the first floor.
- The Commuters Lounge is located on Hutchinson Hall's first floor. There are two rooms, one for quiet studying and another for resting and killing time until class. There is a mini lobby on each floor, located in front of every main staircase. There are also chairs with pull out desks located in the hallways on the first floor.
- In Hennings Hall, there is the open lounge by the elevator located on the first floor. There are no desks, so be mindful of how the studying will work out.
- In the Science Building, there are couches and tables by the windows of every floor. Students can find them on the same corner of every floor.
- Bruce Hall has tables and chairs on the first floor. The area is located by the hallway leading to Townsend Hall.
- In Townsend Hall, there is an open lounge that has comfortable chairs and tables for students to study. The area is located on the first floor between Bruce Hall and the Administration Building. Sometimes classrooms may be empty, but meetings happen frequently in those rooms.
- In the Center of Academic Success (CAS), the first floor has chairs where students may sit and study. There are some chairs scattered throughout the hallway on every floor, so if the first floor is packed, there are other options. Sometimes classrooms will be empty, but be mindful of the possible times classes will take place in the rooms.
- The Miron Student Center (MSC) has the computer lab where plenty of students go to study and use the computers, so it might be full if the Nancy Thompson Library is also full. If sounds or people are not a distraction, the dining hall, Cougar's Den and the main lobby all have chairs and tables where work stations could be set up.
Sometimes studying will involve talking or doing group work, so think ahead where other students will populate to avoid disruption and distractions. If it is not a high concern, then feel free to study in these areas! But vice-versa, please be mindful of other students who are studying and respect their concentration and peace.
Good luck on midterms and finals and everything in between!
