The fall semester officially comes to a close on Wednesday, December 21, 2016. That date may seem far away, but it will soon appear.
In the coming days, students across the Kean University campus will attempt to squeeze in last minute papers and cram sessions, which will take a mental and physical toll. Several offices on campus want to help students during the stressful weeks to come, which is why there will be various relaxing activities.
Residential Student Services (RSS) is aware, possibly more than any other office, of the increased tensions surrounding everything that needs to get done in a short time span in a student’s life. Therefore, the office will be hosting two events dedicated to relieving stress.
The first event that is offered is Grind Time, which will take place on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. In a group setting, students can learn how to juggle several exams, papers and projects coming their way. RSS hopes students can walk away from Grind Time knowing how to “grind” through the nitty gritty work and wrap up the fall semester as best possible. The event will take place in the Community Center on the first floor of Sozio Hall.
RSS will continue to help students who are mentally worn out. On Friday, December 9, 2016, students are encouraged to attend a Coloring Book session from 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. It is time to swap out those pens for colored pencils and laptops for coloring pages. Those interested can go to the Community Center in Sozio Hall.
The Commuter Resource Center is bringing a unique yet appropriate stress reliever to campus: dogs. On Tuesday, December 13, 2016, the Kean community can relish in the fluffy softness of service dogs at Fuel for Finals Pet Therapy. The dog cuddling session will be held in Hutchinson Hall Lounge from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Instead of letting the pressure build, literally and figuratively, grab a free massage at Stress No More on Tuesday, December 13, 2016, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Student Organization (the full-time undergraduate student government) will host the relaxing event in the Pre-Function Lobby on the first floor of the Miron Student Center (MSC).
The last stress relieving event of the fall semester is Stress Relief Table. Students can make stress balls, adopt a few stress alleviating techniques and color a picture or two. Alcohol, Tobacco and other Drugs Task Force (AToD) is bringing the event to the Kean community on Tuesday, December 13 2016, in the MSC atrium from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Nothing is better than finishing that last exam and heading home for a few blissful school-free weeks. Remember, this pressure is only temporary and soon enough the semester will be over.
