As the semester approaches its midpoint, the Office of Intervention and Retention will offer a variety of workshops to help students stay on track throughout the remaining weeks of the fall semester, especially during crunch time.
The Office of Intervention and Retention specializes in offering services to students who are undecided or undeclared. Undecided students consist of students who do not know which major they want to pursue.
Undeclared students do have an intended major, but cannot formally declare it. Being on academic probation or not meeting the grade point average (GPA) requirement for a major will lead to a student being classified as undeclared.
In order to assist students belonging to these two categories, the Office of Intervention and Retention provides counseling, major and career exploration, academic monitoring and free workshops for all students.
"We provide a space for students to create an academic plan, explore your major or just talk about navigating college and life without fear of being judged," said Coordinator Jean Brown.
During the fall semester, the Office of Intervention and Retention has been offering a variety of classes. Self-Care, Time-Management, Over-Coming Anxiety, Studying/Note-Taking and Managing Stress are the workshops being offered this semester.
With the stress that comes along with preparing for midterms and finals, these workshops are being highlighted to show students that they have options to help them deal with struggles they may encounter during the semester.
When attending the Time Management workshop, bring a calendar or planner as the session will help students plan ahead, eliminate time-wasting and increase their productivity.
The Over-Coming Test Anxiety workshop helps students pass exams without the fear of blanking out or feeling unprepared. The Study Skills workshop helps students focus on developing their educational habits by providing a solution focused atmosphere.
The Stress Management and Self Care workshops help students learn healthy habits to assist in reducing the stress one may face from juggling school, work, friends and life in general.
Brown explained that for presentations they utilize PowerPoints as well as interactions between attendees and facilitators.
Students can attend any workshop they would like, but if they prefer to sign up ahead of time, they can stop by the Office of Intervention and Retention, located in room 122 of the Center for Academic Success (CAS).
Workshops are held in room 210 of CAS. Times and dates vary depending on the workshop.
