On Monday, November 7, 2016, the Greek Senate will be hosting the annual Kean Dance Marathon (KDM) Kickoff in the Miron Student Center (MSC) atrium from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

KDM is an annual event that the Greek Senate hosts to help raise money for the Children's Specialized Hospital in Mountainside, N.J. Last year the goal was $30,000 and they ended up raising just over $38,000.  

KDM will happen on Friday, April 7, 2017, from 12 noon to 12 midnight. So far the Greek Senate has raised about $5,000 and is planning to raise $40,000 by the the end of the event.

"The kickoff before any event is to start bringing awareness before the event date," comments Ashley Buchanan, who is a senior majoring in psychology and psychiatric rehabilitation. She is a Greek Life Specialist at the Center for Leadership and Service (CLS) and the Vice President of Programming for the Greek Senate. "The kickoff also helps builds anticipation to the event."

Buchanan also commented that Greek Senate would like to see KDM "not just a Greek event as it is a misconception that it is. We would like to see other student groups and organizations join us and help raise money for KDM."

During the KDM Kickoff, there will be many performances from Greek Organizations who will either be strolling or stepping. Also, a few kids from the Children Specialized Hospital and their families will be attending the event and speaking attendees about their stories and their time at Children's Specialized Hospital. 

Students will also be able to donate to KDM as well as form a team to help raise money. All money raised will go to the Children's Specialized Hospital. 

Buchanan comments that KDM will have a theme for the first time, which will be announced during the KDM Kickoff.
