Vocabulary is important for language learners in their speaking, listening, writing and reading. It is easier to communicate with people once an individual masters plenty of vocabularies, especially for those who will study in a country where a different language is spoken.
On Tuesday, March 15, 2016, Wenzhou-Kean University Warrior of the Wall (WOW) Words Competition was hold by Student Government and the English Language Center, sponsored by XIN TONG education. It aimed to arouse Wenzhou-Kean University students’ awareness to improve and enhance their vocabulary by studying, which attracted hundreds of students to participate.
The competition was divided into three parts, including first-round election, quarter final and final round. The first-round election was held at two classrooms, which included a preparation room and a competition room.
All participates were randomly divided into different groups, and each group contained about 15 people. The competitors entered the competition room together, and would finish the test with 100 vocabularies in 15 minutes on website. Many participants said the difficulty of this test was not easy, because the vocabularies were in Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and International English Language Test System (IELTS) level.
At the quarter-final competition round, students would be required to spell the word correctly, according to the pronunciation from host. And from Monday, March 14, 2016, to Friday, April 15, 2016, participants must get into the habit of learning vocabulary every day to win the final prize during the whole competition time.
Actually, this competition is not only a chance for those participates to display their skills on English vocabulary, but encourages others who will start their vocabulary adventure. There are many ways to do, such as reading English papers, writing essays, watching movies and talk with English speakers. All of them connected English vocabulary, and also improve the entire English ability.
