Understand the background information needed to facilitate healthy conversations on sexual assault, resources to assist in the survivor recovery process and how the power of personal and community stories can be utilized in prevention.
On Tuesday, April 12, 2016, Tim Mousseau will be leading a deep and vulnerable conversation of sexual assault by drawing from his own experiences and countless interactions with others in support groups from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Little Theatre.
Mousseau discovered he was a victim of sexual assault by receiving a letter with a photograph and a few accompanying words. After that, he faced the nightmare of being stalked and blackmailed, as well as regarding himself as a new reality that he had to come to grips with. However, he finally wrote about his experience and his secret, which was read by thousands of readers and received many responses. As a survivor of sexual assault, he realized that he owned the power to redefine himself and made it his mission to empower others to do the same.
“[Mousseau] immediately connected to our fraternity men through his interactive approach. He provided a realistic lens of the present community, engaging the audience to be the change. [Mousseau] was relatable to audience members and our students appreciated his passion.” – Kendall Niccum, Rutgers University
It is not an underlying culture of shame implicit on this sensitive topic. It is a realistic issue that many students faced, are facing or will face on campuses across the country. As a result of attending this speech, audiences will learn how to recognize the emotional, physical and psychological impacts of sexual assault.
Come join Mousseau’s speech hold by Alcohol, Tobacco and other Drugs Task Force! Doors will open at 3 p.m. and a Q&A will begin at 4:30 p.m.
