Relay for Life will be held by Student Organization, the full-time undergraduate student government, from Friday, April 1 at 8 p.m. to Saturday, April 2, at 1 a.m. in Harwood Arena.
Individuals are encouraged to donate as little as $10 by purchasing a luminaria bag in honor of a loved one lost by visiting the Relay for Life website. The funds raised truly make a difference for those nearly 14 million cancer survivors who can celebrate another birthday this year!
Traditionally in the spring season, Nationwide and Worldwide Relay for Life events are held outside and overnight. Every year, the Relay for Life movement raises more than $400 million. The American Cancer Society puts those donations to work, investing in groundbreaking research of every type of cancer, providing free, reliable information to cancer patients and caregivers, providing transportation to medical appointments, assisting with expenses while cancer patients are unable to work, and even providing cosmetic solutions for treatment side effects.
The event kicks off with a Survivor Lap to let everyone know they will keep on fighting for a cure. During Relay for Life, there will be plenty of things to do including jousting, football, rockwall climbing, Fit to Be Kean, face painting, cupcake decorating, food trucks and carnival games and food to welcome participates. The event ends with a Luminaria Ceremony where people remember loved ones lost.
If an individual is a cancer survivor or knows any cancer survivors, ask them to join Relay for Life for a survivor dinner and celebratory lap. If not, just show up and enjoy plenty of activities and fun throughout the evening from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. on April 1 through April 2, 2016.
