On Tuesday, February 9, 2016, the Alumni Association hosted the annual event 100 Days Until Graduation for all undergraduate graduating seniors. It was held in the Cougar’s Den between the hours of 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. and it was the place to be for any future graduates.
“The Alumni Association hosts 100 Days Until Graduation in order to get seniors excited about becoming alumni,” comments Stella Maher, the Director of Alumni Relations. Once students graduate from Kean University they are a part of the Alumni Associations, which is something that future graduates should take advantage of. Maher continues to say “after graduation they are automatically members of the association – no dues, forms, etc. At Kean, you’re a student for 4, 5, or 6 years, but an alum for the rest of your life.”
During the event students were able to do a numerous of things like ordering caps and gowns, class rings and yearbooks, take selfies with the Kean Cougar and a drawing to win extra commencement tickets. It was clear that many students were excited to graduate, ready to get the next chapter of their lives started. Many seniors excited to leave college but at the same time, hopeful that they will find a job.
Going to college can go by quickly for some and graduating from college is a very exciting time for anyone who gets to do so. Having the opportunity to go to college is something everyone should be proud of. The time spent in college is not only spent receiving a great education, but a time to make memories that will last forever. “I made really good friends here. When they say that you meet your best friends at college, you do,” comments senior biology major Briana Gouin.
Other students had great comments about Kean University, speaking of its campus and the education they received. Senior Brianna Higgins who is double majoring in psychology and sociology comments her experience at Kean University was great and that she loves the small classes and how easy it is to get around campus.
Future alumni can still feel a part of the Kean community because the Alumni Association hosts events for alumni. “We want students to know what the Alumni Association is before graduating so they are excited to stay connected and get involved. We hope students leave knowing the Alumni Association is not here just to ask for donations, but that we provide numerous benefits and events for everyone.” The first alumni reunion for class of 2016 is Friday, June 24.
Maher says “We advise graduating students to stay connected and take advantage of the network and benefits the Alumni Association provides. From online networking to mentoring to reunions to career services – we want to help our recent grads to ensure they are off to a good start and able to put their Kean degree to use.”
So congratulations to the class of 2016! The time has finally come and that means no more worries about essays, midterms or finals…just whatever life may throw.
The undergraduate commencement will be held on Thursday, May 19, 2016, at the Prudential Center in Newark. Students can learn more about graduation such as ticket information and arrival time on the commencementpage of the Kean University webpage.
