From November 15 to 17, 2015, the sixth session of Sino Foreign Institutes of Higher Education was held at Wenzhou-Kean University.
Chaoyang Zheng, the Vice Mayor in Wenzhou City, Xinsheng Zhang, the President of China Education Association for International Exchange, and Zhenyuan Qu, the President of China High Education Association attended. More than ten directors from the provincial education department and its international department, more than 40 presidents from different universities and a total of 460 responsible participators attended.
Sino Foreign Institutes of Higher Education is supported by the Education Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges. The event was hosted by Education Research Center of Xiamen University along with local education administrative departments and Chinese Association of Higher Education Sino Foreign Education and Research Branch (Chips).
This annual event consists of “the scale, quality and efficiency of Sino Foreign cooperation education under the new economic development situation,” and in-depth discussing of the significant relationship to develop of Sino Foreign cooperation education.
Jinhui Lin, the Director of the Sino-Foreign Cooperation Education Research Center of Xiamen University, stated, “In recent years, the importance of Sino-foreign cooperation education nationwide should focus from scale extension development to the connotation construction, and quality improvement. It is significant to handle the relationship among scale, quality and efficiency.”
Phil Connelly, the Executive Vice President of Kean University, delivered the keynote speech at the conference My Progress Report on the Growth of Remarkable University of WKU. He stated, “My involvement in the conception, development and growth of Wenzhou-Kean has been an incredibly rewarding experience and a crowning achievement of my career. Wenzhou-Kean University is not a Chinese outpost of Kean University. It is a fully functioning, full-scale English speaking university…[and] offers the same world-class academic programs and experiences as are offered on our Union, NJ campus. President Xi [once mentioned] Wenzhou-Kean University [is] an example of a successful approach to cooperative education that will build a bridge between the Chinese and American cultures.”
Qiang Qian, the Deputy Party Secretary and Vice President of Wenzhou-Kean University, mentioned that Wenzhou-Kean University would import social forces to support the development of the university, such as importing the high-quality of American education and U.S. textbooks to establish a better academic environment and implementing the American class settlement for major courses by hiring the professors from the Union campus or globalization recruitment. Wenzhou-Kean University insists on small-class size rule and encourages research and discusses educational mode to cultivate students' entrepreneurial spirit.
Sino Foreign Cooperation Education already became a trend in current Chinese society. It is important to enhance the relationship among existing Sino Foreign Universities. Additionally, a world-class education does take students to the pinnacle of global economy and communication.
