PSY Partners With PAR FORE For The Holidays

Give back to the community with Psy Org and PAR FORE

The Psychology Organization, also known as Psy Org, will be giving the gift of Christmas to those less fortunate this year. On Wednesday, December 2, 2015, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Psy Org will be joining forces with the PAR FORE program at Kean University to host a party at Weequahic Park Golf Course Clubhouse.

This year will be the second annual Psy Org’s holiday party. The purpose of this party is to celebrate the holidays and give the younger people of the community something to look forward to. Activities such as ornament and Christmas card making will be available for all present; these gifts will be sent to individuals in patient care at a local hospital. Not only does the holiday party give Kean University students a chance to give back to the community, but it allows prospective students of the occupational therapy graduate program to become acquainted within the area of study due to the fact that PAR FORE is a part of the program.

PAR FORE stands for Perseverance, Accountability, Resiliency, Fellowship, Opportunity, Respect and Empowerment and it is a community and occupation-based golf mentoring program for youth at risk, according to the PAR FORE-NJ page via the Nathan Weiss Graduate College website. Kean University’s Department of Occupational Therapy houses one of the three chapters of the program.  This after-school program partners a youth with a Kean University student as a mentor. Participants also take part in individual and group sessions, engage within the community and are taught the game of golf to promote responsibility and proper etiquette.

Psy Org President Brandon Gooden created this event to network to the occupational therapy program and give members a fun and exciting end-of-the-year celebration to look forward to. “[This event] allows the PAR FORE kids to give back,” said Gooden. “Last year, the [members] wrote really heart-felt messages to the kids in the hospital. We hope to get the same effect at this year's event.”
