Blood. Everyone has it, and in most cases, plenty of it. But in the none-too-rare moments of individuals in need of blood transfusions, lives depend on strangers donating their blood.
The center for leadership and service (CLS) is providing the individuals of Kean University several opportunities to donate blood. Over the course of the fall semester there will be one blood drive per month. All blood drives will take place in Miron Student Center (MSC) room 228. The dates are as listed below.
- Thursday, 9/10 from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- Thursday, 10/8 from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- Thursday, 11/12 from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- Tuesday, 12/8 from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
According to the New York Blood Center, 40,000 pints are transfused daily in America. The recipients of blood transfusions widely range from trauma victims to cancer patients to newborn infants. Typically, the donation process takes an hour. Given the time to think about it, 60 minutes out of an eligible blood donor’s day proves paler when compared to all the days, months, and years blood recipients will gain.
If an individual is not interested in donating blood, the CLS is also looking for volunteers to help throughout each of the blood drives. Blood drive volunteers will be given the role of either a spotter, registration aid, or to simply encourage others to donate.
It should be noted that it is mandatory for those interested in volunteering for the first time to attend a Blood Drive Orientation Meeting. All information concerning being a volunteer at a blood drive can be found here.
