Throughout the academic year, Kean University presents many shows of different genres ranging from plays to musicals to standup comedy.
Although it is summer and the amount of students roaming around the campus has dwindled tremendously, that doesn’t mean that Kean University has stopped presenting shows. This summer there are several plays that will be presented on campus and these plays are:
Great Kills: This staged reading, written by Kate Cortesi and directed by Kel Haney, is about a high school student who finds information about her past while applying for colleges. But newly found information about her family places the rest of the family in an uncontrollable state. Bringing something new to the stage, anyone who attends this play will be able to critique the play and give feedback to Cortesi.
This play will run on Friday and Saturday, June 19 and 20, at 7 p.m. and again on Sunday, June 21 at 3 p.m.. Tickets are free, but one must reserve a spot in order to attend this play. One can reserve a spot by calling the box office at 908-737-7469 or by emailing ticket@kean.edu. The play will be held at the Murphy Dunn Theatre in Vaugh Eames.
By the Water: Written by Sharyn Rothstein and directed by Adam Immerwahr, By the Water is a play that focuses its attention on the Murphy couple—Marty and Mary—whom, like many others, had their lives threatened and their house destroyed by devastating Hurricane Sandy. With an effort to try and rebuild the destruction the hurricane caused, Marty begins a campaign with the help of his son. Along with the rehabilitation of the Staten Island neighborhood, the betrayal past that the Murphy family has kept a secret for so long has finally risen to the surface.
By the Water runs on the following days of Thursday and Friday starting at 8 p.m., Saturday with two showings starting at 3 p.m. and at 8 p.m., and Sunday starting at 3 p.m., between the dates of July 16 and August 2, 2015.
