Qingchuan Jin (Owen), a junior finance major at Wenzhou-Kean University and also vice president of Wenzhou-Kean University Student Government (WKUSG), is a popular student in Wenzhou-Kean. Around campus, people give a lot of positive comments about Owen, such as warmhearted, easy-going, conscientious, and creative. These characteristics has lead Owen to gaining many friends and also obtaining a position in WKUSG.

The ability of seizing the opportunities makes Owen successful in his life. “I always train myself, so that I can think comprehensively, give play to my talent, and bring all useful material in my life to play,” Owen continues to say, “I hope I can catch [an] opportunity when it comes to me.”

Owen was looking to enrich his college experience, so he joined the WKUSG in early 2013, and became vice president in 2014. Leading the organization has led to remarkable achievement, like guiding of studying abroad for over 200 students and inviting students from Cambridge University to give a speech. Owen and  WKUSG also organized the award ceremony and freshmen welcome party. Owen was awarded the title of “Wenzhou Outstanding Student Leader” because of these achievements. “I [could not have] achieve[d] that award without my department,” said Owen “It make me learn the importance of team work, which can train my ability of comprehensive thinking.”

Owen likes to help others processes. “I am so happy when I see others overcome difficulties with my help.” Owen said. He has joined one organization called “Red Sun Pavilion”, and he offered breakfast to homeless people and elders as a volunteer. Owen’s volunteering continued as he dedicated his time to the recruitment of new students and also answered questions from high school students and teachers. After the new freshmen came to school, Owen voluntarily became a student tutor to help them with becoming involved in campus life. “Through these projects, I helped people all the time,” said Owen “I also encouraged my family and friends to help others continually, and [to] do what I can do to repay a debt to society.”

As a student leader, Owen has experienced the difficulty of handing his emotions to keep up a profession façade. As he recalled  he was once angry with a member of the organization. “I was thinking [to] myself when I saw his self-condemned eyes,” said Owen “Was I putting too much work onto him?” After thinking, Owen and the student talked and the problem was solved. “I have learned how to adjust my emotions when bad things happen, and solve questions according to others’ emotions, so that I can finish one work efficiently,” said Owen.

Positive energy always fills Owen’s life. In his friends’ eyes, he is outgoing, responsible, creative, and daring to challenge.  In parents’ and teachers’ eyes, he is a person who respects  teachers and education and also honors parents. Owen said, “I like sharing my positive energy [with] others; when I see them happy because of me, I am more than happy.”

Owen also succeeds academically. When trying to find Owen, try looking in the library. Owen goes to the library even whenever he does not have work to do, and as a result the library has become a second home for him. His dedication has paid off and has earned a grade point average (GPA) of over 3.7, and has won an academic scholarship twice. “I am trying to push myself [to] study all the time; nobody can succeed without working hard…I always believe I will do something in the future, so I just study and work as much as possible,” said Owen

As a finance major, Owen has a clear plan for his future career—to be a merchant. Owen chose this profession because his “father is a merchant, I was learning a lot of business things from him in life. My father also supported me a lot when I told him I want to [own] my own company after I graduate, and he promises [to] offer initial capital for me.” Before that, Owen said he will go to graduate school to continue his studies, where he will continue to study finance so that he can handle more problems in his future career.

Owen always said that people cannot create opportunity without working, so we need to work hard to catch opportunities.
