On Tuesday, April 14, 2015, the sorority Delta Phi Epsilon is hosting, for the first time, a semi-formal event that will have a focus of Cystic Fibrosis. With the name The 65 Roses Gala, this event was created according to Jessica Kramer, sophomore special education with a focus of communications major and a member of the sorority, “we [Delta Phi Epsilon] wanted to think of an event to raise money and awareness for Cystic Fibrosis through an event the entire campus can be a part of.”
Kramer, who is also the philanthropy fundraiser chairperson of Delta Phi Epsilon, also comments that at the event, attendees will be able to enjoy food, drinks, music, prizes, and a guest speaker. “The guest speaker,” she continues, “is Alex Tarletsky, a 20 year old Fairleigh Dickinson University student with Cystic Fibrosis.”
Cystic Fibrosis, according to MedlinePlus, is a disease that affects the lungs and the digestive system. This disease can affect the lungs, digestive tracts and other areas of the body by causing thick and sticky mucus to build up inside, which can cause life-threatening infections.
To attend the event students are asked to wear semi-formal clothing and must buy tickets prior to the event. Tickets cost $6 for Kean University students and $8 for non-Kean University students. All attendees can buy tickets at the box office located either in the University Center (UC) or Wilkins Theatre and must present a valid identification card (ID) and ticket at the door. The event starts at 7 p.m. and ends at 11 p.m. with the doors closing at 10:30 p.m.
