Last month, the Leadership Institute of Kean University began its countdown to their Masquerade Ball with a kickoff event that shook the entire campus. On April 8, 2015 in Downs Hall, the Masquerade Ball will take place from the hours of 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Tickets go on sale Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at the Wilkins Theater box office for $6. There is no ticket limit per student ID and outside guests are welcome to attend. The dress code is semi-formal and the wearing of masks is strongly encouraged, but not entirely required.
The Masquerade Ball is not solely for campus fun, it also serves an important purpose. This event is aimed towards raising awareness about domestic violence and sexual assault. All proceeds of the event will be donated to 180 Turning Lives Around Inc., a private non-profit charitable organization dedicated to ending these tragic acts in the community. According to their website, 3 out of 4 Americans personally know someone who is or has been a victim of domestic violence. It’s time to unveil the horrors that hide behind the mask.
