Who is the most influential person in the world? Different people have different answers. Then when a Wenzhou-Kean University student is asked who the most influential student is in  their university, they may say Jia Feng, whose American name is Andy, he is the president of Wenzhou-Kean University Student Government (WKUSG).

Andy, a junior majoring in accounting, became president of WKUSG in early 2013, and he is the first generation president due to 2013 being the first year Wenzhou-Kean began recruiting students. “I cannot forget how excited I was when they told me I  was elected to be the first Student Government president,” says Andy, “My impelling ability improved a lot because of this [position].”

As a president, Andy not only needs to be on top of his Student Government responsibilities, but also take his studies seriously. A president should be a model for other students, such as having good grades and possessing the skill to handle students’ problems, and Andy is doing well on both two sides. He has organized several large-scale events in Wenzhou-Kean University, such as the freshmen welcome party in 2014, students’ award ceremony in 2013, the welcome party of the soccer competition between Wenzhou-Kean University and Kean University. “These activities are [a] good way for me to raise my organizational skills, and I have learned how to organize activities, how to manage time, and how to manage people in these activities,” says Andy. Andy made sure not to neglect his studies. He is proud of his current grade point average (GPA) and he also received a high score on his Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) assessment.

As on any campus, students have complaints concerning the campus of their college. As the president of Student Government, Andy has made it a point to communicate with his fellow executive board members in an effort to maximize students’ experiences. When Andy commented about handling these troubles, saying, “The progress of handling big problems [allowed me to] practice my capability of incident response, and let me know the importance of the organization’s public relations department.”

“My leadership and emotional quotient improved a lot when I was organizing activities and communicating with others, and I also have a remarkable progress in personality shaping, communication skills, and problem solving, which are very important for me to my future development.”

In past few years, Andy made it a point to visit the welfare centers in his hometown to offer his assistance. “I learned the importance of thankfulness, and how I [could give back] to society,” commented Andy, “I feel thankful that I have everything I need.”

College is not all about hitting the books. Besides WKUSG, Andy is a member of Wenzhou-Kean University basketball and soccer teams. “Sports let me have a healthy body.” As a super sports fan, he said, “Competitive sports also teach me not to give up easily; stick to it till the last minutes.”

“I still need to work hard so that I can do more things for me, for school, and for society.” Andy has thought of his future and has come up with a plan. He is very clear which school he wants to choose to continue his studies and where he wants to go after that. “After I did lots of research, I decided to make PWC (Price Water House Coopers) [as] my dream company after I graduate,” Andy said. “Before that, I will study hard to get the certificate of AICPA (American Institute of Certified Public Accountants); that is my short term goal.”

This year, Andy came to Kean University to study as an exchange student. “I fell so lucky I can study at Kean University, it is an amazing experience for me. Here, I can learn many things, not only in class, but also things we cannot learn in class,” said Andy, “I love Kean University.”
