The office of student government is comprised of two individual governments—the Student Organization and the Graduate and Part-time Student Council. With March approaching, the window of time to apply for a position is closing in on Kean University students. The application is available on the Office of Student Government Cougar Link page under “Forms”.
The Student Organization states their mission as, “striving to enhance the intellectual, cultural, and personal growth of those it represents, by acting as the voice of the full-time, undergraduate, student body.” Serving as a representative to the undergraduate class is a major responsibility that will leave you gratified and equipped with the skills for success in the “real world”. A role in student government is the ideal opportunity for someone willing to advocate for their fellow students’ concerns. Regardless of what position, being a member of Student Organization offers professional experience and involvement unlike anywhere else on campus.
The Graduate and Part-time Student Council [GPSC] represents Kean University’s part-time undergraduate and graduate student population. Their goal is to enhance the academic, social, and cultural experiences by encouraging the true meaning of diversity. Employing the assets of student government, the GPSC aims for only the highest academic standards and excellence for the part-time students of Kean University.
Applications are open and available, and all students are encouraged to apply. This year’s application deadline is Friday, March 6, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. The application via Cougar Link will not be accessible after this time. All positions for all government and funded groups such as presidents, class presidents, vice presidents, secretaries, etc. are open for candidates. If creating a team, be aware that all students involved must submit individual applications for the desired position or they will not be considered for the election. Executive board positions, excluding class offices, are voted on by all Kean University students. Please keep in mind that the position is for the following year. For example, if a member of the freshman class is voting on class president, they will be voting for sophomore class president, not freshman. The election dates are not yet finalized but will be established closer to the application deadline.
