Looking to start a new student group on campus? The center for leadership and service (CLS), along with supervision from the vice president for student affairs office, are the main headquarters where that could be accomplished.
CLS has developed a simple process in order for students to send a request for recognition and to allow the organization an opportunity to participate in the recognition process.
The steps to create a club can be followed below:
-
Complete and submit an application for recognition through Cougar Link. All executive board members must have completed the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) form on Cougar Link, along with meeting the student leadership criteria.
-
Once an application and any supporting items have been submitted, it will be reviewed by an appropriate staff member in the CLS. Only complete applications will be reviewed.
-
The CLS staff may request additional information, or ask to have a meeting with the student leaders to discuss the organization mission, purpose, activities, etc.
-
Applications will be reviewed for unique mission and purpose statements, along with a completed constitution.
-
If necessary, applicants may resubmit their submissions on Cougar Link with the necessary corrections for review.
-
Upon approval, student leaders will receive electronic confirmation and further instructions for beginning the student organization recognition process. This process includes fulfilling student group leader training by attending and participating in the student group leadership conference, meeting with and submitting an Advisor Contract with the group’s advisor, applying for a group email account, updating the group’s roster on Cougar Link, and other terms as determined must be done.
The deadline to create a student group and receive recognition is quickly approaching. Regular spring registration was the first Tuesday in December. The late spring registration is the first Tuesday in February. Clcik here for more information.
