Gwynedd Valley, Pa. (4/14/11) – The Kean University women's lacrosse team won the see-saw affair and defeated host Gwynedd-Mercy College, 15-14, Thursday night in non-conference action.
Sophomore Stephanie Tocko broke a 13-all tie with back-to-back unassisted goals late in the second half to send Kean to their eighth win of the season.
The Cougars (8-6) controlled the offense in the early going, scoring the first three goals of the evening. Freshman Julie Knodt, sophomore Lyndsey Cannon and senior Amanda South all had unassisted goals in the early run. Kean would not be able to extend their lead beyond three goals as the Griffins (8-4) scored six goals in the final 18 minutes of action to eventually tie the game at nine-all at the break.
Kean would score the first two goals of the second half thanks to single goals from Cannon and South, but Gwynedd-Mercy came right back with three goals to tie the game and then take the lead at 12-11. South once again tied the game at 12-all and the Cougars took the lead on a goal from Knodt with 12:40 remaining. GMC would tie the game one more time before Tocko sealed the win with back-to-back goals.
Senior recorded seven saves in goal for the win. Offensively Cannon finished with seven goals and one assist while adding seven draw controls. South finished the night with four goals.
Kean returns to dual conference action on Tuesday when they travel to Ramapo College for a 4 p.m. game.
