Farmingdale, N.Y. (4/13/11) – The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team scored four straight goals to break a five-all tie on their way to defeating Kean University, 10-6, Wednesday afternoon in Skyline Conference action.
After jumping out to a quick 1-0 lead thanks to a Nick Angrisani goal, the Cougars (7-5, 2-2 Skyline) found themselves in a 4-1 hole in the 2nd quarter with 13:29 to go. After trading goals in a two minute span, the Cougars rallied with three straight goals to knot the game at five-all. Down 5-2, freshman Richard Cheifitz got things going with a goal off a pass from Ryan Buerkle. Buerkle then found the back of the net with an unassisted goal with 5:53 to go in the quarter before rookie Todd Petrone tied the game up with a goal off an assist from Angrisani with 5:12 on the clock.
The Rams (6-4, 3-0 Skyline) then rolled off three straight goals before the break and added another for the only goal in the 3rd quarter to take a 9-5 advantage. Both teams would tack on one more in the 4th for the final of 10-6.
Cheifitz led Kean with three goals while Angrisani finished with one goal, two assists, and four groundballs. Senior Justin Lappen was 11-of-17 in faceoff opportunities while recording six groundballs.
Kean returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Wells College for non-conference action.
