UNION, N.J. (3/3/10) - For the eighth straight year, the Kean University football team participated in the National Education Association's Read Across America Day in celebration of beloved children's author Dr. Seuss' birthday.Under the fifth-year Head Coach Dan Garrett, the Cougar football team traveled to Wayside Elementary School of Ocean Township School District on Wednesday March 2, as the 19 student-athletes and four members of the coaching staff visited a total of 23 classrooms to read books by Dr. Seuss and discuss the importance of reading to the pre-K through fourth grade students.
NEA launched the Read Across America program in 1997. The nationwide reading celebration takes place each year on or near March 2, the birthday of beloved children's author Dr. Seuss, who epitomizes a love of learning. Dr. Seuss's use of rhyme makes his books an effective tool for teaching young children the basic skills they need to be successful.
